How to Configure Internet Explorer 7 for use with the Brio Plug-in

For computers using Windows XP/Service Pack 2 and Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) only

Before you can successfully use the Brio Plug-in with IE7, you will need to confirm or change the following settings. It is recommended you follow these steps in the order given.

  1. Open IE7.
  2. From the menu bar select Tools/Internet Options  The following screen will appear…


  3. Select the Security tab.  The following screen will appear….

  4. Select Trusted sites icon:

  5. Under Trusted Sites, Click on the Sites button, the following dialog box will appear….


  6. The instructions that follow MUST be completed in the order given.

    1. Deselect (uncheck) the box for "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone"
    2. Enter 137.99.109.21 to the "Add this Web site to the zone:"
    3. Select the Add button.
    4. What you just added should now be in the “Web sites: box.
    5. Close the dialog box.

  7. You should still be in the Security tab.  Select the Custom Level button.

    The following screen will appear….

  8. Scroll down to the section “Active X controls and plug-ins.”  “Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls.”  Enable must be selected.

     

  9. Continue to scroll down to the section, “Miscellaneous”. “Allow script-initiated windows without size or position constraints” Enable must be selected.

  10. Click OK and Yes; you want to change the settings.

  11. Select the Privacy tab.  The following screen will appear….

  12. Check the Turn on Pop-up Blocker box and click on Settings  The following screen will appear….

  13. In the box “Address of Web site to allow”, you will enter 2 sites; one at a time.  They must be entered as follows.

137.99.109.21

*.uconn.edu

Click on Add and the site will be registered in the “Allow sites:” section.  The 137.99.109.21 is the address for the Brio server.  The *.uconn.edu site is a general address for sites that end with uconn.edu.

13. Close the dialog box.

14. Click on the Advanced tab.  Scroll down to the Security setting.  The following box will appear…

15. Check the “Allow active content to run in files on My Computer*” box

16. Select OK

17. Close and restart Internet Explorer before proceeding to the next step, this will ensure that all of the above changes have been applied correctly.


18. You will now apply an update to the Windows Registry.  The procedure is simple.  Navigate to http://www.datawarehouse.uconn.edu/.

19. Left click on the box labeled, “Get Brio/IE7 Registry Update.”


20. Follow the instructions on the resulting webpage.

21. Be sure to reboot your computer when you’ve finished applying the update.

HINTS

1.If you have any added tool bars such as Yahoo, Google, or others, you will need to uninstall them or set them to not block pop-ups.  The reason for this is the logon box for Brio (where you enter your login name and password) is a pop-up box.

2. Every time you logon to Brio you will be presented with the following dialog box.  Click the Yes button.
